Summer Program July- August 2011

Similar to our immersion weeks during the school vacations, NYCNDA's 8 week Summer Program is specially geared for children ages 4-6years old. Weeks 1-4 are about summer in Japan, teaching children summer songs and bondori dancing in preparation for our Summer Festival (Natsu Matsuri) on Sunday, July 24th. Weeks 5-8 focus on traditional Japan including ceramics, textiles and food. Several field trips offer "real life" experiences for the lessons and activities we do each week including art, nature, science, and culture. Weekly activities include piano exercises, traditional dance (in addition to bondori dance), hiragana activities, science experiments with everyday materials (exploring water, color, nature, sound and more), and private lessons in yoga and karate taught in Japanese by local professionals.

Since we are open year round as a daycare, our younger children ages 2-3 years will enjoy trips to the park or other short local outings or indoor activities during certain lessons or activities that are not age appropriate. All children will enjoy the field trips and also daily outdoor play or trips to the local Green Market or Whole Foods to enjoy shopping for healthy snacks. Other daily activities include Japanese hand play songs, telling time, learning greetings, weather, open and/or organized playtime, story time, stretching, life skills, snacks and quiet time.
